Home Opener: The National Pastime at Nationals Park

Finally it was here,
Nats Park on Opening Day
The stands were full
and we were ready to play

James Brown from Dematha
and NFL on Fox
Was the master of ceremonies and assumed his spot

The teams were announced
with the loudest cheer for Stras
Davey Johnson was playful
even though he's the boss

The Marines from Quantico
played the opening song
And no one yelled Ohh's
For that, .....I've waited too long

The National Guard
marched on to the field
and presented the big flag
which proved we'd not yield

Some Soap Opera star
threw out the first ball
Is that the best we can do?,
I yelled to them all

He was also a guest
one of the vets in the crowd
and quickly, my angst
turned into patriot proud

With the cry for "playball"
Gio took the mound with his  heart
His pitching was flawless
with good zip, a great start

Two runs were manufactured
and the Reds would sure drop
So we sent in Brad Lidge
to get us a stop

The gods were not with him
on this glorious day
The Reds lit him up
and extra baseball we'd play

Stammen shut em down
with 10 pitches in the tenth
The buzz was abound
as I held my breath

Gogettumness is our mantra
and winning's our wish
It all came to fruition
When Zim scored on a bad pitch.

5 and 2 was our record
definitely our best start
but the question remains,
how many games can we win by using our heart

We won another
on the following day
Werth hit a single
after 13 frames of play

Will the pitching hold up

Will the team start to hit

And if we win them all ugly

                          Who gives a SH@T!
